Our district’s agricultural tradition means that in recent years many villages have recovered age-old celebrations related with farm tasks – reaping and threshing wheat, planting and harvesting rice, stripping cork, etc. – which had lost their meaning due to the disappearance of these jobs.

Carnival is also celebrated intensely in many places. Particularly famous are the carnivals of Platja d’Aro and Palamós. The Spring Festivals of Palafrugell include events similar to those of Carnival but take place in June, in a tradition born out of the prohibition of this type of celebrations during the dictatorship
