Many of the most deeply-rooted festivities in our land have a religious origin. One of the most significant, declared a Traditional Festivity of National Interest, is the Procession of the village of Verges, held in Easter Week and featuring the Dance of Death, which dates back to medieval times. Other popular religious festivities are the processions and gatherings at rural chapels.
One of the most important processions on the coast is that of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, the patroness and protectress of sailors, which takes place in Palamós, in boats.
