The distance from the centre of the Baix Empordŕ to the Garrotxa district is some 80 kilometres. There we find the Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Area, the finest example of volcanic landscape in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most interesting in Europe.
The Park occupies some 12,000 hectares, within which 38 volcanic cones have been counted, in addition to many other elements of geomorphologic, biological and cultural interest.
One of the features of the park is that it is a highly humanised area where, in addition to the nuclei of population and the farmhouses, there is a very large proportion of farmland.
We recommend a visit on foot to the various volcanic cones inside the Park, either on your own or joining one of the numerous guided visits offered by the Park.
