Banyoles-Pla de l'Estany

The Lake of Banyoles, of karstic origin, is an exceptional feature in Catalonia, as it is one of the largest lakes in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most important natural phenomena in southern Europe. This, along with the fact that it is set in idyllic countryside, has converted it into one of the main attractions of the region.

You can carry out all kinds of activities related to leisure and tourism there. It is so important that significant sporting events have been held at the lake. A clear example of this is the fact that the city of Banyoles was an Olympic centre for rowing during the 92 Barcelona Olympic Games and it will host the World Rowing Championships in 2004.

The lake currently has an irregular "eight" shape and covers a surface area of more than a million square metres. The lake is 2,150 metres long, with a maximum width of 775 metres and a minimum width of 235 metres,

At the lake you can do various activities, such as go out in a boat, observe the wildlife and many other things, about which Banyoles Tourist Information Office will be delighted to inform you!
