For many years, the region had two small trains that communicated the coast with the interior. One connected Palamós with Girona, going through La Bisbal and the other connected Sant Feliu de Guíxols with Girona, going through Cassà de la Selva. For approximately a century, these trains were the main means of transport for people and goods. The train was mainly used by the cork industry, because it easily connected the areas that exploited cork, the slopes of Les Gavarres and L’Ardenya, with the maritime ports of Sant Feliu de Guíxols and of Palamós. Today's route follows the line of the Carrilet through the Vall d'Aro and later returns along the slopes of L'Ardenya to Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
